Simon Tucker (Radio Europa / Louder Than War) Gives Us His AOTY '19

In our annual tradition we invite Radio Europa mouthpiece and Louder Than War Reviews Editor Simon Tucker to give us favourite albums of 2019.

What a year eh. As it spins further into the grip of collective self-harm one thing that has proven to as reliable as ever is music. 2019 was a year of returning legends and for me personally a rediscovered love of guitar bands which I did not see coming as I am a jaded music critic after all ;). So without further waffle here are the best albums I have heard this year....

1) Fontaines DC: Dogrel

2) Beth Gibbons and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra  Henryk Górecki: Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) Conducted By Krzysztof Pendereck

3) Kate Tempest: The Book of Traps and Lessons

4) Girl Band: The Talkies

 5) Daniel O' Sullivan: Folly

6) Thom Yorke: Anima

7)  Cosey Fanni Tutti: Tutti

8) Mica Levi: Monos OST

9) Billie Eilish: When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

10) Sarathy Korwar: More Arriving

11) Better Oblivion Community Centre

12) Los Blancos: Sbwriel Gwyn

13) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Ghosteen

14) King Midas Sound: Solitude / Zonal: Wrecked (cheating I know)

15) Hildur Guonadottir: Joker OST

16) Sleaford Mods: Eton Alive

17) Underworld: Drift Series 1

18) Subjective: Music For Inanimate Objects Volume 1

19) PJ Harvey: The Virtues OST

20) James Holden: A Cambodian Spring OST

21) The Twilight Sad: It Won/t Be Like This All The Time

22) Slowthai: Nothing Great About Britain

23) Loraine James: For You and I

24) Carter Tutti Void: Triumvirate

25) Modern Nature: How To Live

26) Alexander Tucker: Guild of the Asbestos Weaver

27) Kim Gordon: No Record

28) Cotton Wolf: Ofni

29) The Home Current: Civilian Leather

30) Konx-om-pax: Ways of Seeing

I could have made this list twice as long as I have been blessed to have heard so much amazing music this year in my role at Louder Than War so if you want any further recommendations then please visit my author's archive on the site. Have a great Xmas and NY everyone. Stay safe and happy x
