On 2nd October, Edsel Records are pleased to announce the release of McAlmont & Butler: ‘The Sound of McAlmont & Butler 20 Year Deluxe Remaster’.
Featuring the duo’s much-loved classic album, 'The Sound of McAlmont & Butler', remastered by Bernard Butler himself from the original tapes, a 15 track bonus CD includes singles, demos, instrumentals, BBC radio sessions and a new 2015 radio mix of ‘What’s The Excuse This Time?’ by Bernard Butler. The album is also presented on 180 gram vinyl LP, along with an exclusive four track 12” single, all presented in a 12” x 12” 32 page book which includes archive photos and notes.
Showcased across the DVD are the promo videos for ‘Yes’ and ‘You Do’, as well as the duo’s three appearances on Top Of The Pops, and their legendary appearance on Later… with Jools Holland. Also included is an exclusive hour-long film featuring David McAlmont and Bernard Butler in conversation in June 2015 discussing the writing and recording of the album, interviewing each other and performing three songs acoustic in a friend’s living room.
Famed for its grandiosity, on its initial release ‘The Sound of McAlmont & Butler’ offered something completely different and refreshing to a country caught up in the mid-Nineties world of Brit Pop - McAlmont's falsetto vocals effortlessly finding comfort in Butler's intricate arrangements. Eleven superbly arranged and thrillingly executed songs boasting big guitars, seismic strings and startling vocals resulted in the instant classic ‘Yes’, a number 8 hit, followed by ‘You Do’ reaching the Top 20.
After pursuing solo careers for several years, McAlmont & Butler recently re-united for two sell out charity concerts in 2014. The first show originally intended for a small intimate audience at the Union Chapel in London, sold out in minutes via social media and with a second show hastily announced tickets went as quickly. Both shows were a triumphant success lauded by fans and critics alike with The Guardian awarding 4 stars - a joyous celebration of McAlmont and Butler’s new and old songs.
To coincide with the release of McAlmont & Butler: ‘The Sound of McAlmont & Butler 20 Year Deluxe Remaster’, the duo have announced a full UK and Ireland tour for November 2015 and will be joined by a very special backing band including members of The Magic Numbers and a string section.
A long lost third album of new unreleased material penned for future release waits. . .
