Techno experimentalists My Panda Shall Fly and Mau’lin team up for a new EP.

The Push EP sees two experimental artists come together to mix their minds (and music) in a very pleasant six tracker.  Earlier this year, My Panda Shall Fly delighted us with the wonderful No Secrets EP, an upbeat affair which pertly showcased the man’s originality.

All the tracks are pretty abstract and in some instances you could be forgiven for thinking that two separate pieces have been laid over each other.  Opener, Sea Beast seems to centre around a simulated whale call whilst a bassline throbs on its underbelly whilst shimmering synth effects encircle the beast.  Complimented with some oriental chimes, its several layers create a complex piece which manages to stay serene.

Erratic beats are the order of the day on Red as snare and hi-hat effects juxtapose the more regular drum pattern.  Shuffling synth sounds adhere to the lazy beats whilst a semi-trip hop beat fights to break free.  Gingerbread House is slightly more off-beat as space-age blips lead down through the forest towards a mystical clearing.

The simply entitled, I, moves up a notch with a dance floor feel before two mixes of 15 Keys close the EP.  Lakker remix the first representation with another space-age sounding track before the original version closes the collection with a looped chime which us repetitive and hypnotic before added sounds appear in a thinking man’s ambient affair.

MPSF and Mau’lin are a pairing that dare to be different.  Their unique styles have combined to make a mini collection which is original and compelling.  Refusing to fest on anyone’s laurels, they have created an EP which will please any experimental techno fan and could possibly entice new followers on board.
